"It's not ethical that you are campaigning for the party with the taxpayers' money," senior leader Khandker Mahbub Hossain said.
The BNP vice-chairman's remarks came on Saturday at a discussion.
Addressing a public rally in Bogra on Feb 26, Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina urged the people to vote for her party again in the next national election, for what she said 'to continue with the development.'
Khandker Mahbub on Saturday wondered whether there was a provision in the Constitution allowing to campaign for the party while holding a public office.
"It's you (Hasina) who always refer to the Constitution and the law.
"But you are also the Awami League president. You are campaigning with the tax payers' money. Is it ethical at all?" he asked.
The BNP leader called the Hasina to step down, if she wants to work for the party. "It violates your oath to the office."
He said that the BNP will 'definitely' take part in the next national election and demanded Constitutional amendment for an interim government during the polls.
