Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders have expressed ire after hundreds of cards from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeting them on Pahela Baishakh found in the kitchen of Madhu's Canteen at Dhaka University.

Some of them said they found 500 to 600 cards in the canteen's kitchen on Saturday afternoon.

The organisation's Vice-President Mehedi Hasan Rony said in a Facebook post that the "cards were not only simple greetings from the PM, but those carry a lot of emotional values".

"The leaders and activists would have preserved the cards with care if they had gotten those," he wrote.

When the news of the recovery spread, leaders of the BCL central committee and hall committees of its Dhaka University unit became angry.

The canteen workers brought the cards when Chhatra League President Saifur Rahman Sohag came to the canteen. A BCL leader, who was present there at the time, said: "Sohag harshly asked the workers to remove those immediately."

When the leaders asked Sohag about the matter, he said he 'knew nothing about it'.

He later told bdnews24.com: "I distributed the greeting cards to the leaders and activists. I took many to the teachers. But some cards were left out."
