A letter had recently been sent from the Cabinet Division to the Telecommunications Division asking whether the social media site could be blocked from 12am to 6am for ‘the good’ of the country’s youth.
The Telecommunications Division asked telecom regulatory body BTRC for its opinion on the matter. BTRC responded that, due to technical limitations, it was not possible to isolate or block students from Facebook.
The blocking of the popular site became a matter of intense discussion after media reports revealed the possibility on Monday.
