Six dead after bus ploughs into passenger van in Chuadanga

Six people have been killed and three others injured after a bus ploughed into a passenger van in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila.

The accident took place on Chuadanga-Jhenaidah road in Sarojganj area around 6:30am on Saturday, said Abdul Salam, deputy director of Chuadanga Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The dead men have been identified as Milon Hossain, 40, Mohammad Shohag, 20, Shorif Hossain, 30, Raju Hossain, 30, and Shasti Kumar, 35, and Kalu Hossain, 40.

Those injured in the accident are Bablu Hossain, 45, Akash Ali, 18, and Alamgir Hossain, 28.

A Royal Paribahan bus from Dhaka hit the engine-driven van from behind, said Abdul Salam. Two people subsequently died on the spot while four others were declared dead by doctors after being rushed to the hospital.

The injured were being treated at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, the fire service official said.

Police arrested the bus driver, Asadul Haque, and were preparing a case against him, said Abu Jihad Mohammad Fakhrul Alam Khan, the chief of Chuadanga Sadar police.

The authorities will give Tk 20,000 to each victim’s family, the district’s Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam Sarkar said.
