The Dhaka Metrorail coaches inside out

Each set of metrorail trains will be comprised of four passenger coaches and one engine at each end. Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit authorities say around 1,700 passengers, or eight per square metre, will be able to travel at peak hours.
If everything stays on track, Dhaka Metrorail will be operational in 2022 on the Motijheel to Uttara route. The authorities carried out a test run of the first six coaches of electric trains for the metrorail from Japan on Tuesday. The interior of the public transport was also shown to journalists in the unloading area of the project in Uttara’s Diabari.
Japan’s Kawasaki-Mitsubishi made 24 sets of trains for MRT-6 lines, a 20 km stretch from Uttara to Motijheel. The first of these were on a trial run on Tuesday.
Metrorail coaches will travel from Uttara to Motijheel via Mirpur-Farmgate overground in less than 40 minutes.
The first electric trains of Bangladesh will run with DC1500 volt power.
Metrorail will stop at 16 stations – Uttara North, Uttara Centre, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur 11, Mirpur 10, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel.
The stainless steel trains made in Japan have seats on either side of the coaches. Each coach has two spots reserved for wheelchairs.
Either side of each airconditioned coach has four spacious doors. But doors on only one side will open up in stations. Trains will be on the same level as the platform, so no stairs will be needed.
Metrorail coaches will have many handles to facilitate travel by standing passengers. Displays will show names of stations. Authorities believe metrorail will change the appearance of public transport in Dhaka.
