Woman, daughter die in Moulvibazar fire

A woman and her daughter were burnt to death in a fire in Moulvibazar’s Rajnagar Upazila in the early hours of Thursday.

The dead are 50-year-old Rokeya Begum, wife of late Wasir Mia, and their daughter Shaheena Begum, 24. They were the residents of Bhujpur village.

Her son Munna Aziz, 20, was injured in the same incident and admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital with critical injuries.

The fire originated from an electrical short circuit in their house, leaving the woman dead on the spot, according to Inspector Shaymol Bonik of Rajnagar Police Station. 

Her daughter died on her way to hospital.

Mahfuza Sumon, a neighbour, said two rooms of the house have been bunt to ashes. Police have sent the bodies to the hospital morgue.
