A Gazipur court has sentenced a man to death in absentia for killing a girl about six years ago.

Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Hoque announced the verdict on Thursday.

The convict is Faruk Mia, a resident of Kalidaskhali village under Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi. He has also been fined Tk 10,000.

Faruk resided as a tenant at Shahjahan alias Saju’s home in the district’s Mogarkhal area, according to the case dossier. After a dispute over several issues, Shahjahan told him to leave the house.

Faruk used to threaten Shahjahan over the phone. As a sequel to the incident, Faruk stormed Shahjahan’s house and attacked his daughter Sadia Akhter with a knife.

She was pronounced dead by doctors after being hospitalised.

Dulali Begum, mother of Sadia, filed a case with Joydebpur Police Station.

Police pressed charges against him after the investigation.
