Police arrest eight NGO workers in Mirpur with ties to terror financing

The counterterrorism unit of the police has arrested eight NGO workers with Tk 1.3 million in their possession in Dhaka on charges of funding terrorism.

The police raided a Mirpur neighbourhood on Wednesday night and arrested the members of the NGO, Small Kindness Bangladesh, Deputy Commissioner Mahibul Islam told bdnews24.com on Thursday.

“The group has been collecting money from Pakistan and other countries to finance the militant groups JMB and Ansar Al Islam. They wanted to intensify the terror activities in Chattogram area,” he said.

Most of the arrestees were involved in Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Chhatra Shibir, said Mahibul without naming the arrestees.

The police will announce the names of the arrestees formally, he said.
