The deaths were reported in Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh, Faridpur and Barishal on Monday.
Fatema Akhter, 21, died at Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital around 1:30 am on Moday, said Abdur Rashid, assistant director of the hospital.
Mizanur Rahman, a 40-year-old vegetable vendor, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) at 7am on Monday, said Shailendranath Biswas, resident physician of the KMCH.
Selim Hossain, 27, from Netrokona and Anwar Hossain, 40, died during treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Monday, said the hospital’s Deputy Director Laxmi Narayan Majumder.
At Faridpur Medical College Hospital, the 35-year-old mosque caretaker Delwar Hossain died around 10am, according to Kamda Prasad Saha, the director of the hospital.
Sumaiya Akhter, 18, passed away during treatment at Barishal’s Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon, said Bakir Hossain, the director of the hospital.
The latest fatalities have taken the death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease to 172, as per a bdnews24.com count based on reports from doctors and hospitals.
The government count has put the death toll at 40.
Dhaka experienced the initial outbreak of dengue in June before it spread throughout the country. According to the government statistics, the number of dengue patients crossed 50,000 this year.
