The bodies were discovered at a home in Gazipur city's Panishail Shonali Palli early Tuesday, said Kashimpur Police OC Akbar Ali Khan.
The dead have been identified as Rangpur-native Mosharaf Hossain, 28, his wife Hosne Ara, 22, and their two-month-old daughter 'Mohini'.
Mosharaf, a mason's assistant, were living in a rented house in Shonali Palli with his family.
Neighbours noticed that the door was still shut at 8am and saw Mosharaf's body hanging from a beam in his room through the window while his wife and daughter were lying on the floor. They subsequently rushed to the police to inform them of the matter.
According to the caretaker of the house, Md Kabir Hossain, Mosharaf had smoked marijuana inside the home which led to an argument with his wife.
"Mosharaf was an addict and so he would sell off items from his home when he didn't have money," said Hosne Ara's brother Md Hasan.
Police found traces of poison in Mosharaf's room, according to OC Akbar.
"The room reeked of poison and vomit while we found a bottle feeder for the baby. We suspect that Mosharaf poisoned his wife and child before taking his own life."
The bodies have been sent to Gazipur's Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital's morgue for post-mortem. Police have launched an investigation into the matter, said the OC.
