The victims have been identified as 36-year-old Rahima Begum and her two children Rabbi Sheikh, 12, and Rakiba Sheikh, 7.
Narsingdi’s Police Bureau of Investigation or PBI also recovered a 15-inch knife and a cricket bat used to carry out the act from a pond nearby.
A neighbour arrived at Rahima’s house in the morning and got no response when she called her. She then caught a glimpse of blood on the floor as she leaned under the door and began screaming. The locals then spotted the bodies and called the police.
They found multiple stab wounds on Rahima’s stomach and blows on her head and the bodies of the children on a bed.
Enayet Hossain Mannan, a superintendent of police at PBI, said, “The husband has confessed to committing the murders. He said he started by stabbing his wife and then killed his children by beating them with a cricket bat.”
The detained man, who was not named, earlier reported to the police that he cut down several trees 10-12 days ago, which triggered an altercation with his cousin. He also said that the cousin had threatened to kill them.
The police detained another person for questioning. The bodies were sent to the hospital and Belab police are preparing a case over the murders.
Rahima used to knit professionally. Her son studied at a madrasa and her daughter went to a primary school.
