Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has advised the Bangladeshi physicians to send medical papers of celebrated singer Subir Nandi to Singapore for an expert opinion and decide accordingly, an aide says.

The singer has been on life support at the Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital since Sunday night.

The prime minister’s advice came on Friday evening when singers Kumar Biswajit, Tapan Chowdhury and Rafiqul Alam, and physician Samanta Lal Sen met the prime minister at the Ganabhaban, according to PM's Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokon.

“(She) directed Samanta Lal Sen to send the singer's medical papers to Singapore for opinions of doctors there. Then a decision will be taken accordingly,” he said.

Earlier in the morning, PM's Special Assistant Biplob Barua went to the CMH and spoke to the wife and daughter of Nandi.

The 66-year old preeminent singer was admitted to the CMH on Sunday when he suffered a heart attack on his way to Dhaka from Sylhet. He was moved to the coronary care unit when his condition worsened.

Nandi had been suffering from kidney ailment for long and undergoing regular dialysis. The singer has sung more than 2,500 songs in his four-decade long career. He was awarded Ekushey Padak this year.

The artist was born in Baniachang Upazila in Habiganj on Nov 19, 1953.
