The Conrad N Hilton Foundation has announced $2 million ‘Hilton humanitarian prize’ for the Bangladesh-based research centre, ICDDR, B.

A panel of international jurors selected ICDDR,B for the award for its “innovative approach to solving global health issues impacting the world’s most impoverished communities”, the Foundation said on Wednesday.

The six priority areas of the foundation include providing safe water, ending chronic homelessness, preventing substance use, helping young children affected by HIV and AIDS, supporting transition-age youth in foster care, and extending Conrad Hilton’s support for the work of Catholic sisters.

Based in Dhaka, ICDDR, B is best known for its development of Oral Rehydration Solution, which treats the symptoms of diarrheal disease connected to cholera and has saved tens of millions of lives.
