An apparently annoyed BNP chief, Khaleda Zia, has said she herself will sort out the party feud in Chittagong and form the committees.

The BNP chief held a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with 15 leaders from Chittagong Monday night at her Gulshan office to know more about the reasons of the conflicts within the party in Chittagong North and Chittagong South.

Party members with direct knowledge of the meeting said Khaleda expressed her annoyance about what happened during the two meetings in Chittagong earlier this month.

Marty meetings in Chittagong North on May 2 and South on the following day had to be postponed after rival groups clashed.

Earlier, the BNP formed 51 committees to reorganise the party units across the country.

Standing committee member and former minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was in charge reorganising and sorting out the difference of opinion between leaders and activists in Chittagong North and South.

After the meeting Monday night, the party chief stepped in to clear the party mess in Chittagong by herself and announce the committees from the centre.

A senior party leader speaking to on condition of anonymity said, “The party chief does not want to see any more grouping in the party in Chittagong.”

“She warned a number of leaders at the meeting and said if anyone does not maintain party discipline, they will face action.”

BNP's senior leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Abdullah Al Noman, Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Zafrul Islam Chowdhury attended the meeting on Monday.

It is learnt that the BNP politics in Chittagong North is dominated by Gias Kader Chowhury and Mir Nasir and the South by former foreign minister Morshed Khan and Zafrul Chowdhury.
