Former minister and BNP Vice Chairman Barrister Aminul Haque dies

BNP Vice Chairman Barrister Aminul Haque has died just over a month after being put on life support. He was 76.

He passed away during treatment at Gulshan’s United Hospital around 10:07 am on Sunday, the party’s vice chairman Prof AZM Zahid Hossain told

Aminul was battling liver cancer and had also received treatment at Singapore’s General Hospital.

He returned to Bangladesh on Mar 14 and was subsequently kept on life support at Dhaka’s United Hospital.

His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held after the Zuhr prayers at the High Court Mazar Mosque followed by another at the South Plaza of the parliament building at 4pm.

A Namaz-e-Janaza will also be held at the BNP headquarters in Paltan at 5pm on Sunday.

Aminul will be buried in Rajshahi after his children, who both reside in the UK, return to Bangladesh in two days’ time.

He was thrice elected the MP for Rajshahi-1 as a BNP candidate. Aminul was also in the cabinet during the BNP’s terms in government from 1991 to 1996 and 2001 to 2006.
