Khaleda Zia was transferred to the CCU of Evercare Hospital after complaints of breathing difficulties.

The BNP chairperson was brought to the CCU around 4 pm, according to Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of Khaleda’s medical team.

“Her condition is currently stable.”

Khaleda was admitted to the Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara for treatment on Apr 27. She had a CT scan of her chest and some heart tests.

On Apr 11, Khaleda tested positive for the coronavirus. She began her treatment, supervised by her personal physician Dr FM Siddiqui, at her home in Gulshan. She took another coronavirus test after 14 days and tested positive again.

The 76-year-old former prime minister has been convicted in two graft cases and was taken to jail three years ago.

In April 2020, in the light of the COVID pandemic, the government granted a request from her family for a conditional temporary release from jail for “humanitarian reasons”.

She has since stayed at her Gulshan home under the care of her personal doctors and has had limited interaction with others.
