Bangladesh have settled for a point in the World Cup and Asian Cup pre-qualifiers after a last-gasp equaliser earned India a 1-1 draw in Kolkata.

Adil Khan denied Bangladesh a famous win at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium in Salt Lake on Tuesday after Saad Uddin put the visitors ahead in the first half of the Group E match.

Saad’s header from captain Jamal Bhuyan’s free-kick in the 41st minute silenced the partisan crowd in the stands.

Both sides missed a number of chances in the rest of the match.

Before Adil scored the 88th minute header from a corner, he saved a certain goal in the 73rd minute when the ball was going in after goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh came out of his line to make a fingertip save.

It is Bangladesh’s first point in the second round of 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup after they had lost to Qatar and Afghanistan.

The draw is Bangladesh’s 11th against India, having won Bangladesh won against them for the third and last time in the 2003 SAFF Championship final.

India have won 11 matches against Bangladesh so far.

In the second round of the pre-qualifiers before the elimination round, India earlier were defeated by Asian champions and World Cup hosts Qatar and held to a draw by Oman.
