Sharmin Akhter has propelled Bangladesh Women to a comprehensive 270-run victory over the United States with an unbeaten innings of 130 – the first ODI century by a Bangladeshi woman.

The US Women were skittled out for 52 in 30.3 overs in an improbable chase of 323 for a win in the qualifiers for the next ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in Harare's Sunrise Sports Club on Tuesday.

Tara Norris (16 off 27) and Sindhu Sriharsha (15 off 43) were the only US batters to reach double figures.

Salma Khatun, Fahima Khatun and Rumana Ahmed took two wickets each.

After the US chose to field first, Bangladesh openers Murshida Khatun (47 off 56) and Sharmin (130 off 141) gave their side an opening partnership of 96 runs.

Sharmin, who smashed 11 boundaries in her innings, later partnered with Fargana Hoque (67 off 62) and captain Nigar Sultana (33 off 26) to take Bangladesh to 322 for 5.
